RESNET Energy Smart Contractor

Our in person courses and live webinars are designed to prepare you for the RESNET Qualified Energy Smart Contractor Exam. The course covers fundamental building science concepts, the basics of working with energy auditors, and RESNET standards and code of ethics.

A RESNET Qualified Energy Smart Contractor is credentialed to perform work recommended by a home energy auditor or rater. Qualified businesses must have a representative who has completed the course and passed an exam. They then sign an agreement with a CEQ provider (that’s us!) to provide continuing education, record keeping, and complaint resolution services. Qualified conractors can be listed in the RESNET online directory, and can use the certification as part of their marketing materials.

Who should take this course?

• Contractors who perform services related to any of the following: home performance, HVAC, insulation, air sealing, remodeling, windows and doors, siding, plumbing, handyman, solar, framing, home automation
• Homebuilders who want to work with raters to build Energy Star Homes
• Anyone interested in learning about the science behind green building

• The House as an Inter-related System
• Energy Efficiency Concepts
• Energy Consequences of Common Construction Practices
• Intro to Blower Door, Duct Blaster, and Infrared Cameras
• RESNET Retrofit Work Scope, Recommendations and Ethics

Qualification steps and fees:

• At least one person from a company attends training to become an EnergySmart qualification representative: Introductory cost $249
• Take and pass RESNET exam: $50 RESNET test fee (may be administered at course or taken later at a testing center)
• Company signs CEQ providership agreement: Introductory base cost $100
• Company membership and listing on RESNET web site: Membership fee and single trade listings start at $400 per year.
